BTCV Conservation Holiday Volunteers
Skaftafell volunteer teams
Teams of volunteers from BTCV have been working in Iceland’s national parks for over 30 years and BTCV volunteers play a very important role in the practical management of these areas. Projects run for two weeks and take place in Skaftafell, part of the newly established Vatnajökull National Park. All projects are organised by trained volunteer leaders and local national park staff.
The Environment Agency has developed this programme in partnership with BTCV and now hosts Conservation Holiday groups throughout the summer. The work is focused on the construction and repair of hiking trails, which help to protect the fragile ecology from the impact of tourism and improve safety for visitors.
Further information about BTCV International can be found on their website and a full list of their projects, including booking information, can be found at their Online Shop. BTCV volunteers pay a participation fee to join these projects and must be over 18 years of age.
